The fall season with Halloween and Thanksgiving always catch me by surprise! Our family traditions have drastically changed in previous years. My mother-in-law is in late stage dementia. We moved her here to the Hill Country in Texas from Oklahoma. Therefore we no longer go to Tulsa any longer for Thanksgiving. As her disease progresses, her personality changes. This is a surprise for many family members who come to see her from far away. My husband and I are blessed because we have her close and see these changes year long. I describe us as "blessed" because I want to know that her son, daughter, and I have been here for her during her scariest times. People who have dementia are confused because their mind is declining daily and they are scared because they do not understand what is happening. I hope that we can offer a little comfort as the disease progresses.
This Christmas will be spent with my family in North Texas and my mother-in-law here in the Hill Country. As I have aged, I have noticed the holidays give me the most satisfaction when I can be with those that I care so deeply about. It is not just something that an older person says! It is a blessing that God sends to us. As we age, there may be days we feel very alone. Days spent with the people we love is God's reminder we still have a purpose in our circle of family!
Signal Hill Apothecary has added a few things to the store especially to add a special touch for ourselves and our families. I added some pictures here, but please look at the store and give me your feedback, ask questions, and let me know if you have any special requests!
Merry Christmas All!!!!
