I am at the end of my journey toward my credential as an aromatherapist. I have a graduate degree in Social Work, but that was so much easier than this. I think the reason is that when I was at school for social work, I was familiar with the field and already had experience that would support my education.
That is not true with Aromatherapy. My initial reason for getting into this field was because I was excited about the possibility of combining my social work background and aromatherapy in the hospice community. I really did not know about all of the components in the oils. I just knew that lavender smelled really good and was calming! This is true, but.....
Essential oils contain many chemical components that can do things such as calm an itchy spot on your skin, warm and give relief to an overworked muscle, and provide an atmosphere of peace that is conducive to sleep. One thing that essential oils cannot do is substitute for good traditional medicine. I do think that a lot of diseases are self imposed, and we can do things like maintain a healthy weight and eat the right foods. That goes a long way. However, essential oils can help with those issues that may disrupt daily life. For instance, I deal with back pain and have had surgery. I have arthritis and have been told that there is no medical treatment to help. Trauma oil and Kombu butter mixed with Frankincense, Eucalyptus, and Geranium provide me with relief. I am sure that the exercise and essential oils prevent a lot of bad alternatives including pain killers.
A person cannot just buy these items and mix them together. This is the beauty of really being informed about aromatherapy. The mixture has to contain the correct oils and dilution rate to be effective.
Essential oils are very potent. If used incorrectly, it can burn you. Please consult a certified aromatherapist about your questions and be wary of the recipes on Pinterest, etc.
I will be adding oils to my store very soon. I am waiting for the vendor to send the first order. When the store is stocked, I will let you know. There will also be a discount on first orders!
